MR Spectroscopy in Brain Tumor

Abstract
Objective
MR spectroscopy can provide noninvasive monitoring of important cellular metabolites and therefore has great potential for providing clinical information on tumor metabolism and response to therapy. Materials and Methods: During last 3year, we have studied MRS (GE, USA) is 15 brain tumors. 13 among them underwent tumor removal operation and biopsy. In one brain stem high grade tumor, one metastatic brain tumor did not underwent operation.
Results
In benign tumors, MRS showed decreased NAA, slighted elevated choline level. But, in malignant tumors, choline signal intersities were highest, NAA intensities were lowest. The biopsied results consisted of low grade astrocytoma;5, gliomatosis cerebri;3, anaplastic astrocytoma;2, metastasis;2, DNET;1, atypical meningioma;1, ganglioma;1.
Conclusions
MR spectoscopy is very helpful to grade the brain tumors. We can decided the future therapy.
